MUSICAL THEATRE 14-11-12

Rachels Lesson

Celtic Tales

Today's lesson was a nightmare.
We started off knowing that Rachel was ill and couldn't come in, this hit our group with a bit of a shock because our group was Rachel's priority as we were so far behind, I think really this was due to everyone in the group being unfocused and distracted from day one and also the scripts being a tad bit difficult, but if we didn't have all the drama, we wouldn't have come up with what we have now.

The day started with Grace and myself finding out that 2 people from our group (Maisie and Josh), hadn't arrived. This got me and Grace annoyed because we had arranged the previous lesson before to come in and rehearse as one big group. This didn't happen.

Grace and I emailed Rachel who was off sick, to explain the situation and ask her advice on what to do!
We received an email from Rachel saying:

Rachel Maddix-Teacher

Dear all,
Following last weeks extensive talks - you know this week is crucial.
Grace and Emily.P - You are more than entitled to carry on developing the work as a pair. At the moment I would say - use the old devising rule..
-Whatever you devise when group members are missing remains, whether they come back or not.
The best idea is to focus on your own parts of the storytelling and become the physical actor in each others pieces. The scenes you sort out will stay as they are.
If they turn up late - they can work on their own or be included in work you haven't done yet (leaving what you have done as it is). Alternatively they can work together for a while. Josh and Maisie - get to class and contact your group immediately letting them know how long you will be. Message for everyone - DO NOT ARGUE, WHINGE OR EVEN DISCUSS ISSUES while I am not there. Act as a professional performer has to and tell the Director when available. Prioritise what you CAN do and I will deal with all other issues when i return. Set aside opinions and make sure your piece is happening. It has a strong structure and will ultimately be fine.
Rachel.

This gave me and Grace the incentive to keep our chin and carry on!
But...after an hour of worrying and working on a duet, Maisie arrived, but we couldn't do anything because Grace and myself had already started working on a separate piece. It was confusing, and we didn't want Josh and Maisie to fail.
