RACHELS LESSON
TIE SHOW
Today we went to Durrington High School to perform our TIEs.
When we arrived I got slightly nervous, because I didn't want to let the group down.
I knew the group was prepared and ready to perform but I was still a little nervous.
When Kim arrived with the suitcases, we quickly went to the studio to rehearse and make sure everything we needed was in there, like props etc...It was, we decided not to use the golf club that we had originally planned, because basically it didn't fit in to the suitcase.
So, the first lot of students came in, they looked slightly worried but they also were eager to see the performances: I was slightly nervous at this point, I didn't want mess up.
Mels group went first, then Laurens then Elles then came our group, we got set up and in our first positions and were off, during the performance, I wasn't thinking about going wrong, I was enjoying myself for once, which was a new experience because I'm not normally confident with acting in front of audiences, just because I don't feel like I am as strong with acting as I am with singing or dance.
Finally we had finished and it was over for the first class. We looked at each other and we were all pleased with the performance we had just done.
The group of students asked a lot of questions such as 'How long did it take to do your pieces ' Grace answered this question, she said 'It took us only a day to do the piece we just showed you because we changed our story so many times, and changed the scenes'. The group were shocked because even though it took only a day to do, it was very stressful and tiring because we knew we had to get a piece ready for the T.I.E.Tour.
The day went ok, with breaks and extra rehearsals ,just going over the hiccups we did in the first performance such as broken props (the masks for Graces story) and lines we missed out.
The next group came in and they were GCSE students, so they were more familiar to the drama side of things.
Rachel mentioned that there were 17 students and out of the 17, 14 of them were really nervous and self conscious. This made me think about how we would come across to the students without making them being/feeling intimidated or scared. This also made me about how I used to feel when I had to do team work; unconfident!
The first thing we did were the workshops.
All 4 of them.
Mel's group went first. We got into a circle and played stuck in the mud, with a twist. To get unstuck, you had to do the trust exercise you had to trust the person you fell back on to. Two of the GCSE student were on first. I thought it worked well. They then did work in pairs, you had to walk around the room and keep eye contact with your partner.
Dylan's group was next and they got into groups and had a picture of the London riots that the group of students had to try and interpret...We had a group of mixed confident students so Dylan had to try hard to get something out from them, but in the end they opened up and got the character and story and made the picture come to life.
We went next, and we did the tag improvisation and we got everyone in a circle, but because we hadn't really focused much on our workshop, we didn't do very well, so Rachel had to intervene.
We got each member of the circle to come in and tag someone out and get to have a chance of making up a scene. Some students were more confident and some needed more encouragement but each student got into the circle and had a go. This was nice to see everyone working together!
We also showed a chair duet from Frantic assembly and then the class had a go. We did exactly what we did in our class when we were learning Frantic.
Each student partnered with a member of worthing college and made up three movements each and made it into a piece, to the music Supersonic - Basement Jaxx. This was a good way for everyone to show off their own choreography within the class and for people to come out of their shells a bit.
We then got two chairs into the centre and did a run through of everyone's duets and made them into a whole routine, using spins to come in and out of each duet. Just like we did when we did our chair duets one after the other.
Then we put them to the music and filmed them. I thought all the students by then were more confident with performing in front of the class.
After that they had a break and we got everything ready to show our performances the second time.
Our group went first I thought it went worse then the first time, because we had done it once, and it was slightly more relaxed and unfocused, personally I felt my performance wasn't on top form so I felt like I let my team down, slightly.
At the end when we got asked questions or asked if they enjoyed it, they said it was good and enjoyed it a lot and was focused, which was positive and uplifting for us all.
After everything we had done at Durrington High school. We went left with positive comments and everyone smiling and cheery, so this was an overall good experience of my first time of TIE.
